The associates were friendly and greeted the customers everywhere in the store, as well as offered the help.

I had a good experience with Matt at the REI tustin location that sells outdoor gear and accessories. Matt is the person who always helps my husband and I choose useful and well-priced items for every hiking and camping trip. He is very kind, friendly, knowledgeable, a great consultant, and has great customer service. He was very patient in helping us choose a backpack and adjust it fit to our back and body size. He introduced us to shoes, food, equipment and tents, etc.. We are very happy with what we bought. Thank you, Matt. On top of that, the guy checked us out was very rude and had a bad attitude when we asked to help making an online order and ship to the store because the items we wanted is not available in the store.

Lots of great gear, helpful staff. Watch out for their membership policy. All the employees push the membership, I turned it down because I wanted to save for my actual trip. For a $30 membership the cashier said " but we give it right back to you". I said fine because I was going to get more gear down the road. Turns out they give you two gifts cards that expire faster than you could use them. One is only good for 10 days. The other is only good for 3. Basically a scam, sucks I was baited out of cash I could have used on my road trip.

Very poor customer service. They made me wait for a very long time just so I could pick up my skis that I left there for service. They completely ignored me as I was standing by the counter. If I had not complained I probably would have been kept waiting for another hour. Interestingly the person who finally brought me the skis offered absolutely no apology and I think he was waiting for me to apologize!!! Extremely poor service. Poorly managed location. Not sure how are the other locations.

So much outdoor equipment and supplies. Large selection of bikes, camping, and outdoor clothing a multitude of bikes as well, I went for trail shoes, reasonably priced, wait for the sales as a member.

ANCIENT INVENTORY. In September 2023, they sold me Yakima Timberline towers that were from, at latest, 2017, as this is when Yakima changed certain internal design features on this model. This caused a big confusing ordeal when facilitating a warranty claim from Yakima, as parts for those models are not readily available. In addition to the towers themselves being from 2017 or earlier, they swapped out the cover plates to ones that were from 2021, which caused further confusion with Yakima's warranty claims department. After sending the wrong parts (parts for a newer model that did not work with my timberlines) Yakima ultimately had to send me out a new tower to replace the one with a broken part that is unobtainable.

The sales are good but the checkout lines are challenging. Buying online is an option, but shopping in the brick store is so much more fun and the sales people are always helpful.

HEADS UP. REI changes their bike exchange policy without warning. Bought a youth sized CO OP bike with intentions of exchanging it when my kid grew out of it. Brought it in, and they don’t do exchanges for “normal” sized bikes. My kid was 11 when we bought it. Apparently an 11 year old is not a kid anymore. DO NOT TRUST THE SALESPEOPLE HERE. They will promise anything to sell their bikes.
